Chip Lead

Scotland, Edinburgh
Highly competitive salary and package to be negotiated

Enigma People Solutions is recruiting talented Chip Lead to join a fabless semiconductor company specialising in the design of innovative mixed-signal System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for automotive applications. This role will suit someone who enjoys a creative fast-growing entrepreneurial environment and is keen to play a significant part in influencing, shaping and driving critical projects forward.

Our client designs and develops custom and standard SoC solutions for automotive applications which integrate advanced digital ICs (Arm®Cortex® MCUs and/or DSP) with mixed-signal devices into a single System-in-Package (SiP). The mixed signal can include power management, RF, high voltage as well as high speed convertors allowing us to provide complete solutions to our international customer base. You will join an established but growing international team of highly competent engineers that are creating brand new designs to implement the advanced sensing, connectivity and control required to enable modern automotive applications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review, interpret, analyze and challenge customer product requirements specifications (PRD) and applicable industry standards.
  • Create internal ASIC system specifications as well as test plan and specifications for system level test, DVT, ATE etc.
  • Take ownership of the full IC development and be responsible for all the technical aspects of the design working within a core project team. Assign technical tasks to project team and ensure efficient execution. Manage junior staff member work and lead technical decisions.
  • Define overall system architecture, functional block partitioning, interface requirements, target power budget, SW/HW partitioning.
  • Create system models such as MATLAB Analog, Digital models capturing key impairments and Signal/Noise Level plans to ensure performance compliance. Analyze design sensitivity to impairments, document potential areas to focus during design phase.
  • Close collaboration with other design team members including application, software, lab and AT test engineers.
  • Interact with end customer to provide IC expertise, support System Integration on customer platform, performance validation and compliance.
  • Test, characterize, and de-bug designs in the lab as necessary.
  • Help improve the design quality, flow, processes for first time design success and high yield manufacturability (DFM). Willingness to lead some task force to improve design flow.
  • Report to Management status, risk and progress.

Job Requirements:

  • Master´s degree (or equivalent demonstrable experience) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with a heavy and relevant background in designing custom ICs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BCD (Bipolar, CMOS, DMOS) silicon process technologies involving high voltage and Automotive ISO specifications.
  • Knowledge and experience designing power related circuits such as switch mode power supplies, battery chargers, LDOs as well as USB and other high-speed transceivers a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transistor-level analog circuit simulation tools and front end environments with extensive experience with Cadence Virtuoso.
  • Experience with system modelling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Mathematica etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of implementation of mixed-signal IC design and layout.
  • Knowledge to derive pre-silicon verification test plans and target spec for IP owners.
  • Demonstrated ability to characterize and troubleshoot IC designs in the lab.
  • Outstanding cross-functional communication and leadership skills.
